HomeTransitions: 2013 year-end photo series 260 shares By Marcos Detourist on January 30, 2014Traveling is not measured by the distance one moves, but by how much one learns and the remarkable people one meets.I didn’t go on adventures as often last year as I did in 2012 but the crazy experiences and interesting people that I met more than made up for it. Travel had become more than just being in as many places as I could. I wasn’t on a rush and it didn’t bother me if I missed all the guidebook-recommended attractions in destinations I visited.I was going through the motions of change and it felt like being in, what could possibly be, the quarter-life crisis of a travel junkie. For my latest year-end photo series, I was inspired by my ongoing transitions. Here are photos of some of my most memorable travel moments in 2013:PhilippinesKalibo > Guimaras > Iloilo > Biri Islands, Northern Samar > Biliran > LeyteAti-atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines.Guimaras Island, Philippines.Guisi Beach in Guimaras Island, Philippines.Cabugao Gamay Island in Islas de Gigantes, Iloilo, Philippines.Isla de Gigantes Norte, Iloilo, Philippines.Casa Mariquit, Iloilo City, Philippines.Downtown, Iloilo City, Philippines.Iloilo River Esplande, Iloilo City, Philippines.Biri Rock Formations, Biri Island, Northern Samar, Philippines.Biri Island, Northern Samar, Philippines.Biliran Island, Philippines.Kalanggaman Island, Leyte, Philippines.Kalanggaman Island, Leyte, Philippines.ThailandAyutthaya > BangkokLocal river ferry crossing in Ayutthaya, Thailand.Shipyard full of traditional wooden boats in Ayutthaya, Thailand.Ayutthaya, Thailand.Ayutthaya, Thailand.Ayutthaya, Thailand.Chao Phraya River Ferry in Bangkok, Thailand.Sunset at Bangkok, Thailand.IndiaKolkata > Bodhgaya > Varanasi > Khajuraho > Orchha > Gwalior > Chittorgarh > Udaipur > Ranakpur > Jodhpur > Jaisalmer > Jaipur > Agra > DelhiKolkata Airport, India.Kolkata City Center, India.Kolkata City Center, India.Kolkata City Center, India.Kolkata Railway Station, India.Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India.Puja (Prayer Ritual) along the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi, India.Varanasi Railway Station, India.Overnight train to Khajuraho, India.Sunrise at Khajuraho, India.“Kamasutra Temples” in Khajuraho, India.Orccha, India.Orccha, India.Orccha, India.Orccha, India.Orccha, India.Orccha, India.Orccha, India.Gwalior Fort, India.Indian Curry in Gwalior, India.Chittorgarh Fort, India. The White City. At first glance akala ko akin, then I looked closer and said, “that’s not me!” Epic photo ah. I’m glad you enjoyed your trip in Bromo. Hopefully, you were luckier than me and got to see the sunrise. Missy l Sole of Missy saysJanuary 30, 2014 at 11:16 pmThese are awesome photos! What lens are you using, if I may ask? Ang gandaa! Marcos saysFebruary 5, 2014 at 4:32 pmI brought two lenses (the only ones that I own): A Sigma 18-250mm Superzoom and a Nikkor 10-24mm Ultra Wide Angle (UWA) lens. During the first part of my trip I used the UWA a lot but I dropped it in India. I was able to use it a few times after, but now, it is almost unusable. I hope it is not one of those SLRs that weighs a ton. Keep on traveling and share your experiences with us. Marcos saysMarch 27, 2014 at 7:29 amI’m using a DSLR but not the high-end too-bulky-for-casual-travel types. Most of the time these days, I’m using my compact camera and leave the big cam at home. It’s too much weight for comfort. Thanks for continuing to visit my blog Bert!
