HomeAsiaSouth East AsiaPlanning a trip to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia By Marcos Detourist on August 7, 2010One of my planned trips in September is a four day visit to Singapore and Malaysia. I’m so excited since it’ll be my first time going there … well, I haven’t gone out of the country a lot to begin with :) It’ll be a four day trip from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (I’ll be flying out of KL early morning on the fifth day, so it doesn’t really count). The Singapore leg will be spent more on theme parks and the usual touristy stuff but I’ll be sure to fit in some heritage destinations as well. While the Malaysian leg will be spent mostly in Kuala Lumpur and its diverse multicultural attractions. I’m planning to squeeze in a visit to a mosque, a hindu temple, and a chinese temple during my short time there. I also arranged a side trip to Putra Jaya, Malaysia’s masterplanned government complex. It’ll also be my first time going to Clark Airport, where I’ll be flying out for the Clark to Singapore flight. I’ll be spending two days in Singapore and then take the train to Kuala Lumpur, where I’ll be spending another two days. I read that the train fare direct from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur is bloated up, so I’m thinking of crossing to Johor Bahru on the Malaysian side first and take the train from there.Don’t leave yet. It is much more convenient, faster and more comfortable. There are lots of VIP coaches in Golden Mile Complex in Beach Road that provides the Singapore to KL Trips and is available like hourly everyday. pizzalicious saysAugust 7, 2010 at 2:39 pmI agree. That’s what my friend and I did. It’s a lot cheaper, too. Travel time is 5-6 hours. We took a night journey so travel time was cut to half an hour. I hope you’d also get to visit Malacca (Melaka). It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site so it has so much to offer, including the best of Malaysian cuisine. It’s just a 2-hour bus ride from KL, perfect for a day trip. I’d love to go there myself next year with mom and my girls. :) frances saysAugust 7, 2010 at 8:24 pmei there…don’t do the train unless it’s an overnight sleeper one….daytime train are slow and it’s quite old….time consuming….i heard the bus thing is faster and more convenient…good luck….too bad you won’t be able to penang (liked it better than KL)…maybe next time…good luck! chymera00 saysAugust 8, 2010 at 8:45 pmOh, I forgot to mention that it we’re taking the overnight sleeper train from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. It leaves Singapore late night and arrives in Kuala Lumpur early morning. It’s a 10 hour ride (much longer than 6 hours by bus) but it means not having to pay for 1 night in a hotel so it’s going to be more efficient for our itinerary.I would love to go to Melaka! That’s something to thin about since I love heritage stuff. We only have two days in Malaysia though, I’m not sure that we can fit a sidetrip to Melaka and still be able to tour KL adequately. pizzalicious saysAugust 12, 2010 at 11:01 amOh…Maybe you’d want to head to Melaka straight from SG for a quick tour. It’s 3 to 4 hrs. by bus. Then you can take another bus bound for KL. Travel takes 2 hours. :) chymera00 saysAugust 15, 2010 at 11:46 amI think we’ll be reserving Melaka for next time. If I were traveling solo, I would have definitely squeezed in Melaka to the itinerary … hehe but I’ll be traveling in a group and I think they’ll want to explore more of KL.
