Ten days in Kathmandu, the busy capital of Nepal. My explorations of the city included many walks around Thamel, the backpacker haven of Kathmandu, and the medieval-age Durbar Square.

Part 1

Day 1

New Delhi to Kathmandu

  • 3:50pm to 5:50pm – New Delhi to Kathmandu Flight
  • Arrival at Kathmandu Airport
  • Apply for Nepal Visa on Arrival
    • 30-day tourist visa – US$40
  • Ride taxi to Paradise Guest House – R300

Kathmandu Hostel

  • Check-in at Mountain Peace Guest House (Paknajol road; Along small alleyway in front of Mountain Peace Guest House)
    • Double room with private TB – R400

Thamel district

  • Eat at Mitho Restaurant
    • Pork sweet and sour (R260), Buff momo (R120), masala chai (R50)

Day 2

  • Buy Trekking Equipment at Thamel area
  • Buy bus to ticket to Pokhara
    • Roundtrip Kathmandu to Pokhara non-aircon bus ticket – R1,000
