Cagsawa Church Ruins at Dusk: Mayon Madness Take 3

The Mayon Volcano was finally clearing up and just in time for sunset! I rushed to the Cagsawa ruins in Daraga, Albay to get the famous shot of Mayon showing off the ruined bell tower of the ill-fated Cagsawa Church. From the Daraga town proper, I hailed a jeep and dropped off at the highway intersection going to the Cagsawa Ruins (there’s another jeepney route, which goes the other way to Ligñon Hill, so better inform the driver where your headed). There were a lot of tricycles parked at the drop-off point but I chose to walk the way to the Cagsawa ruins since I wanted to take photos along the way. Great thing I did because I wanted to take photos of the Mayon Volcano with Albay’s natural countryside scenery.

Daraga Church Sidetrip: Mayon Madness Take 2

The day was drawing to a close and I was still in pursuit of satisfying my longing to capture a nice photo of the iconic Mayon Volcano. I’ve already spent the day transiting between a few vantage points in Legazpi City, Albay but the elusive Daragang Mayon had covered itself in a veil of clouds, restricting a clear view of its full grandeur. I reserved the sunset hours for my visit to the Cagsawa Church ruins in nearby Daraga town. On my way, I decided to do a quick stop over at the Daraga Church. Many Daraga-bound jeeps can be found plying along the stretch of Rizal Avenue in Legazpi City. I alighted near the municipal hall of Daraga and followed the uphill path to the the church. I was already getting a bit exhausted from the climb but my spirit was instantly invigorated when I caught sight of the church’s beautiful facade and, more so, Daragang Mayon finally clearing up.

Southern Iloilo Road Trip

If you have a whole day to explore Iloilo and would want to venture outside the city, Southern Iloilo is one of the best routes to take since the main attractions are just along the highway and the road conditions are very good. The towns along Iloilo’s southern coast include (from nearest to farthest): Oton, Tigbauan, Guimbal, Miagao, and San Joaquin. It takes a little more than an hour to get to San Joaquin from Iloilo City. Discover the different sights in Southern Iloilo!

Dingle, Iloilo Road Trip

During the drive back to Iloilo from Roxas City, Capiz, we decided to take a stop over in Dingle, Iloilo. Eric wanted to visit Dingle Church since he’s never been there before, mostly probably because the poblacion or town center of Dingle is not directly along the main highway. If you’re commuting, you have to ride a jeep or motorcycle to go Dingle Church.

Captivated in Roxas City and Capiz

Post a Comment |

The last time I visited Roxas City in Capiz was in grade school. I still remember hanging out at my cousins’ house, running around Baybay Beach, and indulging in loads of seafood. My recent 3 day visit to Roxas City was definitely a major dose of nostalgia since it made me reminisce those fun memories when I was a kid. Thankfully, our busy schedule had distracted me from dwelling too much into emo mode. During the trip, I was with Junelle, JunJunn, Eric, Sheila and a few college classmates living in Roxas City. Our main agenda was witnessing the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly (WVTA) 2009 and touring Roxas City and Pan-ay.

Last week me and my friends most of which I met over at flickr, went photo tripping in Antique province. We visited a few spots in Southern Antique (Anini-y, Hamtic, and San Jose) for a day trip. We first met at Molo Terminal, Iloilo City where a few van drivers were squabbling for our attention, we had to choose between a spacious new looking Mercedes Benz Van and an L300 van, which looked like it had experienced too many trips. We picked the L300 van because the driver promised to leave immediately for us. We were lucky enough because the driver was very friendly and even made a deal with us to take us to where we wanted to go until Hamtic and San Jose and then take us back to Iloilo City.
