Hong Kong and Macau Tour – My first trip abroad

Last month, the day after attending the Philippine Blog Awards, me and my siblings (four of us) travelled to Hong Kong and Macau for 3 days and 2 nights. It was our first trip abroad and it took months of planning because we wanted to personalize our itinerary and did not want to be part of a constrictive tour group. Planning for the trip was quite easy because there are a lot of information available online about Hong Kong and Macau but we just wanted it to be flawless and cram as much sights during our short visit. We actually flew in to Hong Kong and stayed there for two days, visited Macau on the third day, and then flew back to Manila via Macau later that day.

We originally just planned to visit Hong Kong for our trip but Macau was too tempting to pass off. It’s just one hour away by ferry … much like crossing the strait from Iloilo to Bacolod, *heh*. I was the one who convinced them to include Macau in the trip given that I was responsible for planning the Macau leg of our itinerary.

Finally! Experiences at the Philippine Blog Awards 2009 – Awards Night

Now that my October travelling spree is over, I’m finally back home … back to blogging. You’ll probably notice my online activity rising because I’ve cleared up my schedule for the next month so that I can do some major work on my blogs (actually, it’s more like I wont be going anywhere because I’ve got no more money left to spend). During the first week of October, I spent a week in Manila to take some pictures for a new blog I’m developing named “Pueblo Philippines (more about this later).” While I was there, I bought a one week MRT/LRT unlimited flash pass (for P250) and visited many spots in Metro Manila. Though, the highlight (and main agenda) of my trip was actually attending the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards, in which Explore Iloilo was nominated under the Best Travel Blog category.

Bacolod City, Negros Occidental Trip – June 2009

I was supposed to go to Baras Beach Resort in Guimaras for the weekend with my friend and her classmates. Me and my friend were already prepared to go on with the trip, we’ve already packed our bags and met in the city. Unfortunately, her classmates bailed out on the plan because it was raining and opted to watch a movie instead. We were quite upset about that because the trip was already planned weeks before and the rain wasn’t strong enough to be worried about, there were also no reported storms coming. Wanting to go on with any trip, we decided to go backpacking to Bacolod City instead.

Writer of Philippine Star’s The Freeman Newspaper copies off content from byahilo.com blog

These people in the traditional media will stop at nothing! First they feed off and make money out of pictures painstakingly taken by us bloggers, now they are also starting to copy/pasting content from blogs. You can read how a writer for local newspaper in Cebu has copy/pasted from Byahilo.com, a travel blog run by my friend Eric D. here: http://www.byahilo.com/2009/05/31/philippine-stars-the-freeman-newspaper-in-cebu-used-my-blog-content-without-permission/

They can juice us for now if they must but there will come a time that these newspaper will become extinct and blogs will replace their outdated and unethical methods. We’ll be on top of search engine results when that happens.

The Zest Air Experience, My ZestAir Review

The Zest Air Experience, My ZestAir Review
ZestAir is a relatively new airline in the Philippines servicing flights to many destinations in the country. They offer lower rates than their competitors and are using brand new planes (though others air saying that it’s actually just newly acquired from a foreign airline). Because of this a lot of people are interested to fly with ZestAir but are a bit skeptical about it because of its acquired reputation from Asian Spirit. Hopefully, my experience flying with ZestAir can help would-be zest air passengers, who’ll read this post. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s great to be back in Cebu! | February 2009

It’s great to be back in Cebu! | February 2009

Me and three of my friends took advantage of the Zero Fare Christmas promo of Cebu Pacific (see the latest Cebu Pacific Promo Fare 2010). We had only planned for a 2 day trip, which we later regret, to save on costs and possible schedule conflicts. I have always wanted to visit Cebu again, I’ve been there a few times during my childhood and I’ve always wanted to see what Cebu has transformed into. Indeed Cebu has changed dramatically and is worthy of the title of being the largest urban center in the Southern Philippines. Read the rest of this entry »

A flare sparks in the darkness of my Christmas

A flare sparks in the darkness of my Christmas
Fireworks at the Iloilo Capitol

Save for the fun meet ups with friends, my Christmas has been sucky mostly because of a big family problem. That aside, the “Christmas air” is just not as festive as before and I so hate the cold air during the evenings of late. Good thing Cebu Pacific made an announcement during Christmas day that they were giving out ZERO fares. Being slightly down, I needed a quick fix to make me excited. I quickly contacted my friends and we made the online booking the next day. Read the rest of this entry »
