The Other Side of Boracay: My Relaxing Summer Break

While backpacking may be my traveling style of choice, I also get the urge to take a break once in a while so I can relax and clear my mind especially after a long backpacking trip. Despite the thousands of tourists flocking to Boracay every summer, there’s still a lot of space for relaxation. It’s only a matter of looking for the right spots.

Survivor Palawan: A Solo Backpacker’s Travelogue

Taoist founder Lao Tzu was immortalized by saying “every journey starts with a single step”. Well, that ancient Chinese proverb didn’t exactly apply to me during my recent trip to Palawan. I was out of the house with my overstuffed backpack and enthusiastic vigor on my way to ride the ferry to Puerto Princesa City, Palawan from Iloilo City. When I got to the ferry terminal, the guard told me that the boat was already fully booked and I had to wait a few more days to catch the next one. Total Bummer! So I had no choice but to go back home and postpone my trip.

After four days of recuperating, I was out of the house again with a renewed fervor and the same unopened backpack, except this time, I have already secured the reservation for the ferry. I was really looking forward to visiting Palawan for a few months already. No other place comes to mind to do my first solo backpacking trip than in Palawan, which is definitely on the top of my list of places to travel in the Philippines.

One Hot and Exciting Week in Boracay

Just as I thought I would be going back home to get a long rest and start blogging about my trip to Thailand and Cambodia, Aliwan Fiesta 2010, and Banaue, a sudden turn of events came my way and a day after my flight from Manila to Iloilo, I was back on the road again, this time to spend a week in Boracay Island. I was so pumped to visit Boracay again during the summer or peak season. Last time I went there was October last year and although it was also a great trip, visiting Boracay during the summertime is still, in my opinion, the best way to experience this tropical paradise.

Dumaguete and Siquijor Tour

I’m so happy to kick-off my year of traveling with my first out-of the-region trip this year to Dumaguete City and Siquijor via Kabankalan City (Negros Occidental). I was so pumped about the trip since it’s my first time to visit the genteel City of Dumaguete and the mystical island of Siquijor.

Bike Tour of Boracay

Circumnavigating the island of Boracay by bicycle was an item in my wish list of things to do in Boracay. Seems fairly doable since Boracay is just a small island and they already have a circumferential road (that I’ve only seen previously in maps). During my bike tour, I got to see the beautiful scenes on the “other side” Boracay … but … describing all the biking as a great exercise is an grave understatement (for me at least), I was not expecting that it would be such a heavy workout.

One Week in Boracay Pictures

I spent an entire week in Boracay last October 2009. While my friends attended the Philippine Nurses Association Convention held in Boracay Eco Village, I was enjoying and going around Boracay Island. One of the highlights of my recent trip to Boracay was renting a bike for a day and a half and venturing outside of White Beach. Here’s what I came up with:

Captivated in Roxas City and Capiz

Post a Comment |

The last time I visited Roxas City in Capiz was in grade school. I still remember hanging out at my cousins’ house, running around Baybay Beach, and indulging in loads of seafood. My recent 3 day visit to Roxas City was definitely a major dose of nostalgia since it made me reminisce those fun memories when I was a kid. Thankfully, our busy schedule had distracted me from dwelling too much into emo mode. During the trip, I was with Junelle, JunJunn, Eric, Sheila and a few college classmates living in Roxas City. Our main agenda was witnessing the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly (WVTA) 2009 and touring Roxas City and Pan-ay.

Western Visayas Tourism Assembly 2009: A Parade of 12 Festivals

Post a Comment |

The Western Visayas Tourism Assembly is an annual gathering of all provinces and cities of Western Visayas geared at showcasing the tourism potential of the region. Roxas City and Capiz Province hosted the event this year held last December 4-6 . I was able to witness event with fellow bloggers Junelle, JunJunn, Eric, and Sheila. During the first day, we were treated with the unique opportunity of seeing some of the best festivals in Western Visayas. The street dance parade started from the city plaza all the way to Villareal Stadium, where they performed their  spectacular 5 to 10 minute choreographed dances.

I’m still hung over my travelling spree in October and now, I’m going out of the house again for my next trip to Roxas City, Capiz on December 4-6 for the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly and Sinadya sa Halaran. I still have a lot of backlog travel posts to do and I’m currently finding ways to manage posting them before my planned trips this December.
