I was back to traveling solo in El Nido, Palawan. My travel mates for the past four days already left, before day break, for the 6-hour ride to Puerto Princesa and return flight to Manila.
There was no awesome view of the sunrise to cheer me up that morning because of the thick haze of heavy clouds tirelessly hovering over the islands.

My curiosity to see the southern half of mainland Palawan led me to the Tabon Cave Complex in Quezon town. Tabon Cave Complex in Lipuun Point is the domain of the Tabon Man, known as one of the earliest human inhabitants in the Philippines.
Despite the celebrity status of the Tabon Man among Filipino elementary degree-holders, significantly less tourists venture to the Tabon Caves (and South Palawan in general) because it is overshadowed by the more popular attractions in north Palawan like Honda Bay, the Puerto Princesa Underground River, El Nido, and Coron.

With all the unbelievably beautiful islands sprinkled off the coast of El Nido, the idea of spending each waking day out on island hopping tours is nearly irresistible. It was true for me during my first time visit. I didn’t tire spending two full days seeing amazing islands one after the other, and, even then it wasn’t enough.

This is my do-it-yourself (DIY) travel itinerary during my first visit to the southern half of Palawan Island. I only got to visit the Tabon Caves in Quezon town because of my limited time left in Palawan. I spend four days in Quezon town and the remaining days in Puerto Princesa City. While I was in Puerto Princesa, I got the chance to visit the Bonton Falls in Brgy.

Shimizu Island in El Nido, Palawan took me by surprise the first time I laid my eyes on its captivating beauty. It’s probably the most gorgeously surreal island in Bacuit Bay off the coast of El Nido.
Imagine a small white sand beach pocket sandwiched between two sentinel-like limestone cliffs that are bridged by a curtain of deep forest.

We finally set off to see the islands of Bacuit Bay in El Nido. The morning was shrouded by thick clouds hovering over the beautiful seascapes. Perfect clear blue skies didn’t greet us that day but we weren’t bothered because El Nido was beautiful under any light. If anything, it added to the exotic allure of the islands.

It was finally time to see the beauty of El Nido, Palawan under daylight. Staying at Calaan Beach, a small cove north of the town proper, afforded us an open uncrowded view of Bacuit Bay.
Come sunrise, we woke up to a beautiful sight of cloudy skies hovering over the calm coast, limestone cliffs, and forested islands of Bacuit Bay.
