Sorsogon to Legazpi City: Return Flight to Manila

Sorsogon to Legazpi City: Return Flight to Manila

I was back at Dangkalan Beach Resort at 7am. I got worried since I still needed to do the long commute from Bulusan, Sorsogon to Legazpi for my 2pm return flight to Manila. I hurriedly packed my bags, took quick morning shots of Dancalan Beach, and flagged the first jeepney to Sorsogon City. I hope I’d make it in time, I’d have to spend another night in Legazpi if I miss my flight. Read the rest of this entry »
Lake Bulusan: Overnight Side Trip to Sorsogon

Lake Bulusan: Overnight Side Trip to Sorsogon

Lake Bulusan got me curious after reading how it has been described as the “Switzerland of the Orient.” I was excited to finally get to visit a sizable mountain lake for the first time. I would have already satisfied that goal in Lake Lanao if it weren’t for my major Marawi mishap :( It was already dark when I arrived in Bulusan (I came all the way from Caramoan) and I still had no idea where to spend the night. Albay Churches Tour: Tiwi, Tabaco, and Santo Domingo Church en route to Bulusan

Albay Churches Tour: Tiwi, Tabaco, and Santo Domingo Church en route to Bulusan

My plan was to do a commuting tour of three towns/cities dotting the western coast of Albay (Tiwi, Tabaco City, and Santo Domingo) before going on the long ride from Legazpi City to Bulusan, Sorsogon. I dropped off infront of the Tiwi Church after an amazing jeepney ride along the PARTIDO coastal highway. I first knew of Tiwi, Albay because of its famous hot springs, a regular item on our Philippine geography class waaaay back in elementary school. Read the rest of this entry »
Caramoan to Legazpi Commute: CamSur PARTIDO Coastal Highway

Caramoan to Legazpi Commute: CamSur PARTIDO Coastal Highway

I initially planned to visit Calaguas Islands in Camarines Norte for my last stop in Bicol. Unfortunately, my plan didn’t push through. I had to pick a new destination … I found out about Lake Bulusan in Sorsogon after a bit of googling. Thank goodness Rex Tourist Inn had WiFi, otherwise I wouldn’t have known, in advance, about commuting to Lake Bulusan and the alternative way to get to Albay from CamSur. Caramoan Islands: My Solo Survivor Escapade

Caramoan Islands: My Solo Survivor Escapade

I was craving for some downtime and a change to a less urban type of scenery after a busy itinerary in Naga and Legazpi City. No doubt, my #1 agenda for the whole trip to Bicol region was to visit the “Survivor” Islands of Caramoan! Caramoan became known internationally as the setting of several foreign “Surivor” TV series franchises in Italy, Isreal, France, Serbia, , Bulgaria, and Sweden. Read the rest of this entry »
Caramoan at Last! DIY trip to the Survivor Islands in CamSur

Caramoan at Last! DIY trip to the Survivor Islands in CamSur

The commute to Caramoan takes at least four hours from Naga City, Camarines Sur. Two hours land trip from Naga City to Sabang Beach and another two hour ferry (pumpboat) ride going to Guijalo Port in Caramoan. After quick morning tour of Naga City, I took a tricycle to the FILCAB terminal located across SM City Naga. Read the rest of this entry »
Bicol Itinerary: 7 days Solo DIY trip to Camarines Sur, Albay, and Sorsogon

Bicol Itinerary: 7 days Solo DIY trip to Camarines Sur, Albay, and Sorsogon

Bicol, for me, has one of the most diverse set of tourist attractions in the Philippines. It has alluring natural features, remarkable historical structures, lively festivals, great food, and sought after adventure destinations. Since it was my first time to step foot this part of the Philippines, I didn’t want to miss out on the best the region had to offer. Ligñon Hill View Deck: Mayon Madness Take 5

Ligñon Hill is the go to place among many travelers in Legazpi City to see great 360 degree views of Mayon Volcano and surrounding areas in Daraga and Legazpi. Legazpi City Seawall at Sunrise: Mayon Madness Take 4

Legazpi City Seawall at Sunrise: Mayon Madness Take 4

It’s a very rare occurrence that I wake up early during my travels. When I went to Legazpi City, however, I couldn’t just pass of the opportunity to view the beautiful sunrise along the coast of Albay Gulf and the clear view of Mayon during the early morning hours. The experience also got me a first hand encounter of everyday activities along the seawall of Legazpi like fishermen waking up early to tend to their catch and joggers, also taking advantage of the cool morning breeze. Cagsawa Church Ruins at Dusk: Mayon Madness Take 3

Cagsawa Church Ruins at Dusk: Mayon Madness Take 3

The Mayon Volcano was finally clearing up and just in time for sunset! I rushed to the Cagsawa ruins in Daraga, Albay to get the famous shot of Mayon showing off the ruined bell tower of the ill-fated Cagsawa Church. From the Daraga town proper, I hailed a jeep and dropped off at the highway intersection going to the Cagsawa Ruins (there’s another jeepney route, which goes the other way to Ligñon Hill, so better inform the driver where your headed).
