Sunset at Buntun Bridge in Tuguegarao, Cagayan

The Buntun Bridge is often overlooked by tourists visiting Tuguegarao City in Cagayan Province.

I agree that it’s no feat of human engineering (even in its time of completion) but I was somehow drawn to it.

I was scouting for locations to take sunset photos in Tuguegarao. The mighty Cagayan River, the longest and largest river in the Philippines, was an easy candidate.

There was no better and more convenient way to take photos of the Cagayan River than from the Buntun Bridge located at the western edge of Tuguegarao City.

Basilica of Our Lady of Piat in Cagayan Valley

The Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Piat is one of 12 minor basilicas in the Philippines. It is distinguished as the home to the venerated Black Virgin Mary.

The Basilica of Our Lady of Piat is located in the town of Piat, which is 30 minutes away by land from Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Province.

This pilgrimage site attracts a large number of devotees especially on July 1 and 2 when the feast of Nuestra Señora de Piat is celebrated.

The first thing I noticed that was different about the Basilica of Our Lady of Piat was its entrance arch. It was located at the back of the church. You’d have to go around from the entrance to see the the church facade.

Tuguegarao, Cagayan Province and My First Taste of Pancit Batil Patong

Visiting Tuguegarao City and Cagayan Province wasn’t originally part of my Northern Luzon DIY tour. Good thing Eric told me about his plan to visit Tuguegarao.

I fired up Google Maps and included it in what would be longest road trip ever spanning at least 700 kilometers along the national highway.

I planned to encircle the northern cape of Luzon Island. Starting from Tuguegarao … then continuing my journey northwards to Pagudpud, westwards to Laoag, southwards to Vigan, and finally taking a stop in Baguio before returning to Manila.

Cagayan Valley and Tuguegarao DIY Tour Itinerary for 3 Days

Here’s the do-it-yourself (DIY) itinerary I took during a three day trip to Cagayan Valley. I flew from Manila to Tuguegarao, the capital city of Cagayan Province. I spent three nights in Tuguegarao City while making day trips to a number of tourist spots around Cagayan. First up was a quick tour of Tuguegarao’s “centro” and commute to the Basilica of our Lady of Piat. On the second day, me and my travel buddy, Eric, went to the Tumauini Church in Isabela Province, which was followed by a memorable visit to the Callao Cave in Penablanca. The Callao Cave is probably one of most photographed attractions this side of Luzon. We went on a church hopping tour of Northern Cagayan on our third day starting at Calamaniugan. We worked our way back to Tuguegarao passing by the historic towns of La-lo, Gattaran, Alcala, and Iguig.

Northern Luzon Circuit: Trip around Cagayan, Ilocos, and Baguio for 11 days

Last year, I went on the most butt numbing trip of my life. The experience was quite rigorous yet the rewards of visiting some of the most alluring places I’ve ever visited were also very gratifying.

It all started smoothly enough when I flew to Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Province from Manila.

It was very exciting for me since it was my first time to visit the northernmost parts of Luzon.

Still Wandering in October

As mentioned earlier, I’ve been AFK (away from keyboard) for a while now. It’s still a busy month of traveling for me. Since I started blogging, it has always been my goal to live the lifestyle of other travel bloggers. To be able to travel extensively and frequently for longer periods of time. If feel really lucky that I’m already starting to live that kind of life and thankful to everyone who continues to visit my blogs and leave comments, which fuels my passion to continue blogging. Here’s a quick rundown of places I’ve traveled to since my last post.

Still Wandering in October
Taken at Kuala Lumpur International Airport just before the return flight from our Singapore – Malaysia trip at the end of September. It took multiple shots … but I still couldn’t keep my eyes open for the shot since I was already so tired.
