La Union Provincial Capitol and panoramic view of San Fernando City

La Union Provincial Capitol and panoramic view of San Fernando City

The La Union Provincial Capitol wasn’t your run-of-the-mill government structure. Built during the American occupation, the building sits on top of a beautifully landscaped hill overlooking the West Philippine Sea and entire coast of San Fernando, the capital city of La Union. The facade may have appeared plain compared to other provincial capitols in the Philippines but my attention was caught by what greeted us after stepping past its stately front doors. A night at Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa in San Juan, La Union

A night at Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa in San Juan, La Union

We stayed at Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa during our visit to La Union province. Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa was a Balinese-inspired resort located right along the beachfront of San Juan, a famous surf spot in the Philippines. San Juan Beach attracts a lot of beach goers and would-be surfers because of its easy accessibility, 5-6 hours land trip, from Manila. After check-out at Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa, we continued our journey north to the town of Bacnotan, La Union. We spent the morning, hiking around the eco-trail at the “La Union Eco-trail” by Holcim Philippines, Inc. The thought of trail hiking and cement plants didn’t make sense to me at first but during our visit, we learned about the initiatives of Holcim to rehabilitate the environment and provide additional recreational activities within their property and stimulate tourism in Bacnotan, La Union. Thunderbird Resort Poro Point in San Fernando, La Union

Thunderbird Resort Poro Point in San Fernando, La Union

I’ve heard about this resort in San Fernando, La Union before. Other travelers who’ve visited Thunderbird Resort Poro Point described it as a semblance of Santorini in the Philippines owing to rock cliff ocean views and architecture inspired from white washed walls, blue domed churches, and borderline minimalist design found in the Greek isle of Santorini. Lakbay Norte Itinerary: 8 Days of Fun Adventures in North Philippines

Lakbay Norte Itinerary: 8 Days of Fun Adventures in North Philippines

I had just returned to my empty hostel room in a small town in Southern Palawan when I got a call from the North Philippines Visitors Bureau. They broke the news that I was chosen as one of the lucky travel bloggers joining the 3rd edition of the Lakbay Norte media tour. I was overwhelmed with excitement but I had to keep it to myself … I was traveling solo and there wasn’t anyone around that could relate anyways.  Read the rest of this entry »
