Last Mach 23 I had my duty in Antique in the hopes of finally completing my DR Scrubs. It was already my 3rd time to Antique but it was my first time to have completion duty in the Provincial Hospital (Angel Salazar Memorial Hospital) in San Jose, the capital town of Antique. We rode the bus to San Jose at around 2pm. I took the seat at the left side of the bus since most of the interesting sites and the sea could be viewed at the left side of the highway like the of churches and the town plazas of Guimbal and Tigbauan.
A few weeks ago, our school paper, “The Forum”, initiated a photo contest. The theme was an open interpretation of the word “emo” and the winner would be featured in the front page of the folio of the paper and given a cash prize. I joined the contest and conceptualized some emotive photos. Since I was able to make more pictures than I was going to enter in the contest, I decided to make a series or collection of them here. Here’s a video me and my friends made for a contest in school during the Valentines Season. I was one of the camera men and was the one who edited the video. We won in the contest by the way, beating the entry of the Mass Com ^_^

Spending hours under the heat of the midday sun was worth it after I was able to take these pictures of the Dinagyang Festival 2008 held during the 26th and 27th of January. While the other photographers who had SLR cameras and their long zoom lenses were able to take their stunning photographs standing in the shade (or in one location), I had to move around a bit (because of the limitations of a point a shoot with 6X zoom) so that I’d be able to take decent shots.
The photos I’ll post here are only some of the photos I uploaded, the rest can be found in the Dinagyang 2008 photo set in my flickr account. Here are my best shots:
There are a lot of informative websites about making money online. One such site that I have come across on and am subscribed to is MoneyBlogger, which has a lot of insightful articles that helps me in learning more about monetizing my blogs.
Currently, MoneyBlogger is holding a contest and the winner gets to receive an iPod Nano. Isn’t that cool? Definitely, I would want to have that thing in my pocket and all I have to do is have a blog :D
This January 2008, I visited Kalibo’s ati-atihan for the second time. I enjoyed myself a lot during my first visit last year and made it a point to visit it again this year. As always, ati-atihan was fun and still left relatively apathetic to commercialism. I wish I can write more about my experience but I have too little time right now so I’ll just post the pictures I took during my overnight stay in Kalibo.

After the new year, me and my friends thought of visiting Guisi, an upcoming tourist destination in Guimaras. I have been there before but there’s just something about the place that haunts me to go back over and over. Its natural beauty is just superb and to top it off is a magnificent display of Spanish-colonial heritage in the form of an 18th century lighthouse. No wonder the Provincial Gov’t of Guimaras (with the help of the Canadian Urban Institute) is putting high priority in promoting Guisi.
From Iloilo City we rode a 15-min pumpboat ride (P11) to Jordan, Guimaras via the Ortiz Port in Iloilo City. In Jordan Wharf, there is a small shed where a tourist assistance outpost is located. They could arrange transportation to any destination in Guimaras and the best part is that they already have fixed rates so you won’t ever have to experience being overcharged by opportunist drivers. We opted to commute to Guisi by riding a Nueva Valencia Jeep (P40), which took us straight to Guisi in an hour. From the main road, it’s a 3 minute walk downhill to the beach resort.
There, you’ll be able to see the cottages, white-sand beach, clear waters, blue sky, and rock formations on the sides, a very refreshing sight after a long transpo.

This January 2008, Canon has just released a new model for its entry level SLR. Dubbed as the Canon EOS 450D or Canon rebel XSi, it is the successor of the ever popular EOS 400D. I’ve been waiting for a few months that Canon will release a new entry SLR that has Digic III processing and now that it has finally arrived, I’m uber excited in being able to own one.

Right now, I’m having my Community Health Nursing Duty in a Barangay in Leganes. The family, which I was assigned to, raises and sells pigs as a means of livelihood. During our first day, one of the mother pigs just gave birth the night before. The family let us see the piglets… They were just so cute! All 14 of them were crawling around stacked on top of each other while breastfeeding or sleeping. There was this one pig that was half the size of the other piglets and was having trouble getting a spot in the mother pigs nipples since the larger pigs would shove him/her off easily. The pigs made us a bit more excited to visit our client.

Shooting people is one of my weaknesses as a photographer. I think I take acceptable landscape shots and animal/wildlife shots but when it comes to shooting subjects that are something so dynamic and interactive such as a human, I can’t seem to be confident enough in pressing the shutter due to self doubts whether it will result in a good shot.
So I convinced my friends to let me take portrait shots of them until I get better and I did. I’ll post some pictures of my friends if they will agree. My newly enhanced skill has also helped me take self-portrait shots, so in the meantime, I’ll just post some pictures of myself:
