During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the booming sugar industry in Iloilo paved the way for the migration of affluent families to Negros. These families turned vast idle lands in Negros into Sugar Cane Plantations and Haciendas. Eventually, an international port was opened in Silay City, which became the center of commerce in Negros.
To date, many old buildings still remain intact including a grand church, several commercial, and residential buildings.

a very nice pix.. hope one day i find time to have my tour at silay with my classmates.i’ve been there several times yun nga lang hangang tingin lng ako hehehe..i wasnt able to roam around.
I have been all over the place from Asia to the middle East to North America yet I have never seen a place as peaceful and friendly as Silay City.. one of the best place to live, trust me.
Silay people are dalok with their rice. All the millionaire old maids live in Silay. If you are looking for a very rich wife, then come to Silay.
All the prostitutes and drug dealers are in Silay.
That is how they make their Millions.
I admire your photographer…he took great shots of your place plus i know your place is of great beauty…It looks very inviting to come…
Yez! i encourage all of u to come at silay ky its a nice place and the people their is very nice as well!! Silay City is the Parish of Negros as what i have read in an articl..I forgot what book or site is that!! Basta nd gid kmu mang hinayang mag kadto kmu dah! it’s nice if you will get the photos of the Brgy. Patag ky gudz2x gd..nice shot gd ah!!
thanks joy. I’ve been to Patag twice already, nice nice ang place.
admire ko gd ang photographer..obvious na photographer ka gd ah!
gin hidlaw mn ko gulpi sa birthplace ko ba..nice shots..I stumbled upon your blog when i was googling for palawan..that was very informative and made me decide to go backpacking the moment i get back sa pinas..and maybe take your route..there’s more in silay..but not beaches..saw your pictures of patag..it was so relaxing..i just can’t wait to get home and go camping there..there’s this place called “tinagong dagat” in patag..it’s a hidden lake..an old crater of a long dead volcano..it will take you 5 to 6 hours of trekking from ladlad..but i promise you it’s worth it..and you’ll have to spend the night there..to rest i guess..but we usually spend four days there..and it’s colder than what you’ve experienced below..if it’s rainy season there’s water on the lake..but most of the time it’s empty and is covered by moss..maybe it’s as big as four football fields..we play football there..you should check it out..so that “tinagong dagat” will have descent pictures from a great photographer..(pa copy ko dayun hehe)..i’ll be home by november..if you have any questions you have my mail..it will be my pleasure to help..and if you’re into nature and protecting it check out GREEN ALERT NEGROS..they’re on facebook..they have lots of activities you might be interested..permi mo na sila makita sa capitolyo ga rally..hehe God Bless you traveler..
woah! thanks for the comment Jason. Would love to go to Tinagong Dagat, I’ve actually already heard about it but never got the chance to go. If ever me and my friends return to Patag, I’ll be sure to consider going to Tinagong Dagat.
