The college education that blogging bought me
I started putting Google Adsense ads on my blogs in January of 2006 but it wasn’t until three months later that I got my first adsense check and three months more that I got them every month, this was the time that I started Explore Iloilo (http://www.exploreiloilo.com). In 2007, I was able to earn a few hundred dollars a month. I was still in my third year in my Bachelor of Science in Nursing course in West Visayas State University - College of Nursing.

Whenever bloggers start to make considerable money online, they would usually make a post with the title “The -insert item here- that blogging bought me.” Some high income bloggers would post about their new car, plasma/LCD TV, or house. I’m not a high income blogger but I have bought something from blogging that is equally worthwhile.
It was during the summer of 2007 that I started to fully pay for my tuition with the money that I got from blogging. I was able to pay for a lot of expenses in school thereafter including my tuition for the first and second semester, daily expenses, expenses for make-up and completion duty (this part is quite expensive), and my board exam review. It’s a good thing that I study in a state university because studying in one is cheaper than private schools here. In total, I was able to save my parents more than P85,000 in school expenses because of blogging.
It’s quite an achievement for me but I couldn’t be more proud than being able to survive the BSN program of WVSU, one of top the top performing nursing schools in the country. I couldn’t have done it alone, and I give most of the credit to my friends, who gave me a reason to go to school and on duty, and especially to my teachers, who put up with me for four long years.
So what’s next for me? An option would be to continue my nursing profession and work abroad but right now, I feel that there are a lot more things that I am able to contribute before eventually giving in to being a nurse.

hi! i’m curious how you earned money thru blogging. how does it work? what are the requirements?
i like your photos. pls. check out mine:

thanking you in advance for your reply. my email: nuevedos@email.com
Hello Nuevedos,
Basically, I earn money by displaying Google Ads in my websites (I don’t put them here since it’s a personal blog). Their advertising program is called Google Adsense, and anyone with a blog/website can join. The only requirement is that you have to give them accurate information about you including your mailing address.
Once you’re signed up, they give you a code and you paste that code in your website so that Google ads will be displayed in your website. Google automatically picks, which ad to display based on the content of the page (i.e. if its about travel, photography, making money online, etc.). Google will pay you every time a visitor clicks on those ads.
They will then send you a payout if you accumulate $100 in earnings. I get it by check via local mail service but you can also get them through DHL, Western Union, Electronic Bank Transfer etc.
BTW, I’ve checked your gallery before. Really great stuff. I’m still an amateur in photography (well maybe, I know a little). I’m still saving up for an SLR right now, takes a while to save up for that expensive thing.
congrats! nursing is hard enough but blogging and nursing? that’s something! good luck on your career, may it be nursing or blogging.
CONGRATULATIONS, Marcos! Finally, you hurdled four years labor of school work! Next stop…board exam !!! God bless to you. By the way, my aunt used to be in the adminstration at WVSU and our house is just a stone-throw away from your school.
hi Marcos!
some more questions. i hope you don’t mind. i know how busy you are.
1. do i need to invest in a domain name? i don’t have a personal website. how much is the annual payment? can i recoup my payment in 1 year?
2. do you design your website yourself? what software do you use? here’s my attempt at webpage making using frontpage.

your pics are good. they look professional. i’m an amateur photographer too. i don’t have SLR also. Thanks
Glad to help, just fire away your questions.
1. I recommend investing in a domain name since it’s not very expensive at all. You could get one for less than P1000 a year. Try to visit philhosting.net for cheap hosting and domain solutions.
Yes, you could recoup your P1000 in a year but that depends if you are able to drive enough traffic to your website. If get a lot of traffic, you could recoup that P1000 and even X times more in just a month.
2. I use wordpress for my websites since it’s easier to use than manually creating pages in frontpage. I don’t do the design from scratch, I download free templates and modify them.
If you want to make money online, making a blog is a popular option to choose. When making a blog, you’ve got to pick a topic that you are passionate about so that you’ll be able to post contents that others will find interesting.
Wow! your don’t have an SLR but your pictures are really of high quality.
Hi!
Nice work… good job! I’m happy that we have young people like you. Keep up!
Prins
Thanks prins
i had a nice time reading your write ups and blogs. i guess you are becoming a celebrity in your own right.
follow up questions:
1. is it cheaper and easier to maintain if i let others do the hosting? can i do the updates and maintenance somewhere else like in a cybercafe?
2. i’ve checked wordpress.com for themes and templates, it looks like i still have to learn html code programming. all i know is frontpage. what software do you use to modify these templates? how do you upload them to your websites?
Let’s just continue this discussion sa email or YM (id ko is chymera00)
